The Story of my Son

Here is the story of the day I became a Mom, the day my whole world changed, the day I realized one little baby could make my heart burst with pride.

On February 13th, I began to feel 'uncomfortable', and went about my day. I kept doing my daily chores, I vacuumed, swept and mopped floors, cleaned the bathroom, cooked meals, paid some bills, tutored, and helped my husband with some schoolwork. I noticed that my back continued to hurt, but thought that maybe I was just tired from the day. By 1:00 am, I knew that this wasn't just back pain, but thought I would give it some time. After sleeping for a few hours, I was up and in the shower, convinced that I should shave my legs and wash my hair, since this was going to be a big day!

I got my husband up at 8:00 am and let my midwife know that today was going to be the day. I puttered around the house and snuggled with Molly girl (my four-legged dog-child). She went to my in-laws for a few days, and I missed my little girl so much over the next three days. When my midwife arrived, we had breakfast and chatted, while my husband worked on setting up the birthing tub.

Over the next few hours, I laughed and joked alongside my husband and midwife, breathing through contractions and rolling on the yoga ball. By 2:00 pm, the contractions were every two minutes apart and lasting for a minute. They were completely bearable, and I enjoyed stepping into the birth pool two hours later. For an hour, I kept thinking I was on some kind of vacation, the warm water did wonders! When 5:00 pm rolled around, I knew we were getting closer. I was in transition, and did my best to let my body do the work, to accept the pain, and to just let it be.

I pushed for forty minutes, and he was born at 6:43 pm. It was the most fulfilling experience of my life. I had my son. I was a mom.

The little man came out a little too complacent, but after a few minutes he was just fine. Now we are settling in to a new routine, and I am doing my best to rest as much as possible....even though I wish I could go back to my 'old' self right now, the Lord is teaching me patience.

Patience.....in all things.

He's Here!

Born at 6:43 pm and weighing in at 7 lbs 6 oz and 20 1/2 inches long, our son Allen James is here. He is perfectly made, a beautiful reminder of love and life.

I am doing great, a little sore, but accomplished this at home and pain-med free.

Completely Random

-Yesterday was my husband's 31st birthday! And yes, for those who are keeping count, there are six and a half years between us. I am just a lil one next to him :)

-We have snow....that's right SNOW!! We are expected to have about 3 inches by tomorrow, but it's not supposed to stick around too long. In previous years, when I lived in large cities and it snowed, I thought about hunkering down and just letting it snow. Now that we live in the country, I love the snow, but cringe when I think of all the poor animals stuck outside in it. Breaks my heart....

-I ordered a few things we needed for the baby a couple of nights ago. I love gift cards!!

-I have been cleaning, doing laundry, keeping up on bills, cooking up a storm, and loving on my family, in preparation for our little guy's arrival. Although, I must admit, cleaning the floor is getting more and more difficult with every passing day.
I swear, the floor just keeps stretching further away from me!

-My husband has finals til Wednesday, so I'm hoping and praying that our son waits til then....maybe even til Friday and then we could get some sleep too.

(Just a quick picture of the tree out back.)

May you all have a wonderful week ahead....there is much to look forward to.

Tomorrow marks 38 weeks.....eeeppp! That's right, the countdown has officially begun!

May you all have a wonderful Tuesday.

I'm off to wash windows, bake banana bread, and buy some birthday presents for the coming months--I'm trying my darndest to get ahead :)
